Who must keep accounts in Switzerland?
According to article 957 of the Code of Obligations (CO), the following entities are required to keep accounts and present financial statements:
- Sole proprietorships and partnerships whose annual revenue exceeds CHF 500,000
- All legal entities (LLCs, corporations, associations, foundations, cooperatives)
Sole proprietorships with less than CHF 500,000 in revenue may limit themselves to simplified accounting (receipts/expenditures), but complete accounting is strongly recommended for tax and management purposes.
